I've had my XTC4 stolen.
I didn't write down the serial, but do have a numerical reference (5430003), on my invoice from wiggle.
Could that be the serial number of the frame???
They laughed when I said I was going to be a comedian. Well, they're not laughing now.

Giant Defy Serial Number To Find Age 1

  • I'd guess that's just the order number or the item number?
However, you can ask Wiggle if they've kept a record of the frame number or if they've passed it onto Giant (sometimes bike shops do this..).
If you bought it on a cycle to work type scheme, they often have to provide the frame number to whoever administers the scheme.
  • it's a different number from the order number. I've contacted wiggle, but they've not recorded it.
i don't know if the police did from a previous theft. they'd have to return my calls first!!!

  • Bit late, but I have an excel spreadsheet with all my frame numbers on.

  • Yes not trying to rub it in but if it helps one other person....
I recently read an article where the Police said the biggest issue with stolen bikes was identifying the rightful owner once they had found them..so ALL (even the £5.50 ebay special) have their numbers recorded..they also said it made it harder to prosecute the thieving scroats, so yet another reason to make a note!

  • Sorry but it doesn't look like a serial number I know it's a bit late now but I tend to register with themanufaturer, make note of the number and take a photoof the serial number on my phone, back it up and keep it on my phone, as having a photo dated a year ago of the serial number could well help with proof of ownership is stoped by the law.

Why are MTB economics; spend twice as much as you intended, but only half as much as you wish you could afford?
  • Easy...turn your bike upside down and the frame number is on the bottom bracket !
If the frame number is not stamped into the frame then how are the police going to distinguish it from another !

  • Yet again after geeting yp fuzzy eyed I misses something important in the original post..Pudsey you plonker..
If you still have your Giant Wallet and if Wigglem have done their bit right you should have a sticky barcodeb either stuck on the wallet or on the log book...the frame number is also enclosed on the sticker

I've got the lot, giant book, rear and front mech books, rock shox dart 2 book, but none of that info. I've just had a chat with a very nice bloke at giant, who says the scenes of crime should have taken the number down after the first theft earlier this year.
    so fingers crossed.
    a very expensive lesson..
